Introduction

 

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Kamloops Chapter of Junior Chamber International – the largest young person’s organization in the world! We are an organization of professionals and entrepreneurs aged 19 to 40 working to create positive change in our lives, communities, country and world.

 

Junior Chamber (Jaycees) offers a unique opportunity to work with people from varied backgrounds and professions. Our members come from all walks of life: computer programmers, lawyers, finance specialists, business owners, students, teachers, administrative assistants, engineers and many other professions. Each brings a unique skill set to our activities that furthers the individual development of others.

 

By participating in Junior Chamber activities and training courses, our members gain leadership experience, practical skills and learn management techniques, while at the same time making measurable positive contributions to our local community. Junior Chamber is a vehicle for many members to acquire skills and knowledge otherwise unattainable to them through employment or education.

 

Our chapter places a heavy emphasis on fun no matter what the activity – from Adopt-a-road trash bash to our annual golf tournament to volunteering at Operation Red Nose to fundraising for local charities. Along with these opportunities comes the chance to chair projects and participate on committees where we emphasize development of organizational, fundraising and leadership skills.

 

We run a busy schedule of events throughout the year – monthly meetings, monthly social events, training events, public speaking training and local/national/international competition, conventions, monthly beer night, and always in the background are our project plans for our fundraising or community events. Members attend as many events as they choose. There is a lot of variety and always something for everyone to enjoy.
